Vision & Strategy

Our vision is:  All Baltimore babies are born healthy and grow and thrive in healthy families!

To achieve our vision, we rely on the simple fact that working on many levels -- individual, interpersonal, services/organizations, community, and policy -- can have a big health impact on the whole population of Baltimore.

Our 2019-2023 Strategic Update provides a roadmap to help us achieve this vision.

BHB works to improve the quality of care provided by physicians, nurses, social workers and others who work with pregnant and postpartum women. Through increased coordination, improved policies, education, and quality improvement processes, BHB works to ensure that all public maternal and child health services are responsive, accountable, and client-centered.

With the support of the Mayor’s office, the BHB Initiative works to improve policy related to maternal and child health. Some of our key achievements to date include:

BHB’s initiatives in Upton/Druid Heights and Patterson Park North & East show what is possible when residents, community leaders, health and social service providers work together to support the health and wellbeing of mothers, babies, and families. Each BHB team employs community health workers to help families connect with resources and services in their communiites.

BHB’s efforts to improve policies, services, and outreach is supported at every turn with media and community campaigns that prompt women to have better conversations about health with their partners, family members and friends, and healthcare providers.
